Join us on Friday, 29 November for the bi-annual Youth Awards Festival, where we’ll shine a spotlight on the outstanding achievements of our young people and reveal the winners of the 2024 Youth Awards 🎉🥳

Here’s what’s in store:
✨ Live entertainment featuring local bands, musicians, and dance performances
🍦 Free ice cream from Ice-Cream Republic and bubble tea from TAP
🍔 A BBQ prepared by our talented VCEVM students
🎨 Creative activities like badge-making and more!
🍿 Popcorn stand and a visit from our friends at the KiT van

This is a free, family-friendly event.
Fully supervised, smoke drug and alcohol free.

Come and support our young people, enjoy great food and entertainment, and connect with the community.

The Push All-Ages Tour is heading back across regional Victoria, bringing along a huge line-up of Australia’s biggest artists, as part of ALWAYS LIVE.

🏕️🌈 PRIDE CAMP 2024 🌈🏕️

🌻 9 young people from our Shire headed up to Axdale to join of cohort of 29 young people from across regional Victoria celebrating all things Pride.

❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤

🏳️‍🌈 They got to learn new tricks with the talented Castlemaine Circus crew, had a powerful chat with the legends from @minus18youth , navigated a scananger hunt for the centuries, did more dress ups than you’d believe, and made more badges than what might seem physically possible over three days… and to cap it off, everyone received a free pair of Pride Volleys @dunlop_au !!! 👟🏳️‍🌈

🌌 And of course there were the standard camp activities. Marshmallows were eaten, Rhino Hero was played, and camp fire songs were sung late into the night.

🪩 Every year, the Grand Finale Catwalk is a chance to celebrate each other, the friends that have been made, and the kind of confidence that blooms best in a supportive community.

🌳 Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Youth Activities Support Officer Manue was lucky enough to attend. “I never take if for granted, what it means for our young people to have three days to truly experience being themselves at such a young age,” they said.

🌱 “WayOut allows for a safe haven and the impact of that ripples out into the community, as the young people who attend learn how to be leaders and to carry the spirit of Pride Camp out into the world.”

Join community Health Nurse, Bron, and a panel of experts as they discuss tips around vaping, alcohol, and drug use among young people.

Young people in Mount Alexander Shire listed drugs, alcohol, and vaping among their top ten concerns.
'Teen Whisperer' Bron Grieve will help with tips, facts, and strategies for helping your young person navigate this tricky space.
Presented by Dhelkaya Health Community Health Nurse, Bron Grieve, in partnership with Mount Alexander Shire Council.

A panel of experts - including the Alcohol and Drug Foundation and Headspace - will be available for a parent question and answer session after the talk.

Help us shine a spotlight on the young people in our Shire who are making a difference by nominating anyone aged 12 to 25 for an award ✨️

The Mount Alexander Shire Youth Awards recognise and celebrate young people across a range of unique categories and help to inspire future young people to make a positive impact in their community.

The awards are open to anyone aged between 12 and 25 who live, work, study or play in Mount Alexander Shire by recognising the diverse range of personal and community achievements of local young people through five different award categories.

The 2024 Youth Award categories are:

Social Impact – acknowledges a young person making a positive impact on the people around them.

Environment – recognises a young person bringing a positive voice to the issue of the environment.

Sport and Recreation – celebrates a young person making a positive difference to their club or sporting environment.

Art & Music – recognises a young person making a positive contribution to the arts and music.

Industry – acknowledges a young person making a positive contribution to an industry or workplace.

Everyone in our community benefits when young people feel included, seen, and valued 🫶

The Youth Awards are an important event on the Shire calendar, and we look forward to celebrating our young people together!

Nominations for the awards close at midnight on Tuesday 5 November. To nominate, visit the Council programs / event section of www.mountalexandershireyouth.com.au or pick up a nomination form from the Civic Centre, Castlemaine Library and Castlemaine Secondary College.

Winners will be announced at a free Youth Awards Festival in Castlemaine on Friday 29 November. Winners will receive a certificate and prize valued at $100.

We are delighted to invite all our young makers' back for another go, and are eager to meet anyone else who’d like to join us and showcase their talents alongside their peers and the community.

The Young Maker’s Market will be open from 10am to 2pm at the Western Reserve oval in collaboration with the Castlemaine Artists’ Market.

All young people between the ages of 10 and 25 years are encouraged to demonstrate their creativity in whatever area they so choose at this amazing event.
